Meet the Directors

Our staff is committed to all students receiving a high-quality music education. Students are challenged and encouraged in their growth as musicians and young leaders. The staff focuses on providing students with positive performance opportunities and enjoying success as a byproduct from diligent practice and focused effort.

Sixto Elizondo

Director of Orchestras

Sixto Elizondo is the Director of Orchestras at Ronald Reagan High School. He is responsible for the leadership and development of six student orchestras. Under his leadership since 2010, the Reagan High School Orchestra has enjoyed record student retention and performance attendance. In addition, the Reagan High School Orchestra has won multiple awards and recognition in region, state, and national competitions. Mr. Elizondo also serves on the Texas Orchestra Directors Association Board of Directors as Secretary advising on the growth of orchestra directors through annual sponsorship of new music reading sessions, clinics, workshops, and exhibits. For 19 years, he has been a member of the Corpus Christi Symphony and also works as a freelance violinist and vocalist in the San Antonio area. Previously, Mr. Elizondo was the Orchestra Director at Robert E. Lee High School for eight years responsible for the guitar ensemble and development for the student orchestras. He earned a Bachelor of Music Education, with a concentration in violin, from Baylor University where he was a member of the Baylor Orchestra Symphony. Mr. Elizondo has professional affiliations with the Texas Orchestra Directors Association, Texas Music Education Association, and Texas Music Adjudicators Association. He is also President of Mu Omicron, an honorary Orchestra Directors fraternity.

Nathan Sharplin

Assistant Director of Orchestras

Nathan Sharplin is the Assistant Director of Orchestras at Ronald Reagan High School responsible for student education and development. A cellist himself, he adds to the Reagan High School Orchestra by leading and conducting the cello choir and cello and bass sectionals. Previously, Mr. Sharplin was a fine arts teacher at Coakley Middle School in Harlingen, Texas. He has also taught private lessons and string sectionals throughout the San Antonio area. Prior to teaching, he was a harpist for the Valley Symphony Orchestra in McAllen, Tx. He earned a Bachelor in Music Theory from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and a Master of Music Performance from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
